Summative My Hero Posters

1. In my posters, I placed the pictures where they were because they show the elements of design. This is key to a poster because if you do not have any of these elements, such as line, balance, unity and rhythm, then the poster would be boring. In my posters, I used focal point, movement and colour to make a bigger impact for each poster.
2. I approached my first poster by making it a poster for a music concert. I included Jack Johnson supporting the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, which he co-founded, because I wanted to incorporate some facts from my essay to this poster. I did not want the message of this poster to be about surfing because even though it is his favorite hobby, it is not the message I wanted the poster to have. By using two pictures and texts, I was able to make this poster seem like something you would see on the door of a classroom or in the hallway at school.
In my second poster, I approached it by using movement as the key element of design. I included a background picture and two main pictures, which overlay each other. Your eye travels from the bottom right to the middle left, and then back down with the waves. The focus of this poster was to describe Jack Johnson’s lifestyle. It shows that he is a guitarist, singer, and surfer – three things he is great at.
Finally, I approached my third poster by using some of Jack Johnson’s songs as a border surrounding Jack Johnson playing a guitar and surfing in the background. The focal point of this poster was the text because it describes who Jack Johnson is and what some of his lyrics are like.
3. In my first poster, I used all the elements of design. When you look at the poster, you start off by reading the title and your eye move downwards. This is a sense of movement and focal point. There is also colour in the middle and in text. The texts are different sizes, which creates a difference in scale. Line is shown to the left because the text at the top and bottom-line up vertically, which emphasizes a clean look. There is also unity throughout this poster because the images relate to each other.
In my second poster, focal point and movement is used. Focal point is seen in the bottom right because it is a bright colour, yellow. There is motion throughout the poster by moving clockwise from the bottom right to the left picture of Jack and then back down with the waves. This circular motion helps to create a powerful effect and rhythm throughout the poster. I used overlap with the bottom right image and the left side image, which are both different sizes
In my last poster, I used a lot of colour. The texts in the border are different colours and the images are in colour too. By having the text surrounding the poster creates movement. When you first look at my poster, you see the white text, then Jack playing the guitar. After, your eye travels to the top left and sees Jack surfing. Your eye finally ends at the top left, the start of the border. You become “trapped” in the border because your eye keeps following it around. The center image of Jack creates a focal point, as does the text below it. There is a sense of texture throughout it because of the different layers of images and text used. The border and white text show line, which creates a clean look to the poster. Finally, there is unity between the content of the poster – both text and pictures are related.
4. I think my first poster is the strongest because it is more creative than my other two. It shows more elements of design, and the concert idea makes it creative and fun! It is also interesting because the images that I chose make it look like Jack is sitting on the wave while stepping on the water.
5. I think my third poster is my least successful poster because it might be too busy. The border has to many colours for each text, which can be distracting. Three ways I can improve on this poster are: making the text in the border one colour, making the background one tone, and making the main image and main text stand out more.

Week 10

The first picture is a picture of my bookends from grade 8. This is weird because I received it on November 14th, 2007 and it was supposed to be given to me two years ago. This award is awarded to any student that received I think 200 or 250 house points. I didn’t know I got this many, but it’s always nice to receive an award.
This second picture is my English project that has 5 parts to it. We got it on November 7th and its due on November 23rd. It’s a somewhat big project that needs time to be done. I’m only done the first part and I still have to write 4 more. :S

Week 9

This first picture is Remembrance Day Assembly. The assembly was roughly an hour long. There were some guess speakers, some bands, and some speeches made. This assembly happens every time close to November 11 because on November 11th soldiers fought to try and conquer Juno beaches. This has to be a very touching moment for all veterans and for people that remember that day.
This second picture is my squash equipment. I’m trying out for the squash team and I don’t even play squash. This is kind of funny because I’m playing some good players, but the rest are people that don’t even play like me, but if I don’t make the team I decided to play squash out of school anyways. It’s a fun sport and really intense. I just hope I make the team.

Week 8

This first picture is the revolution poster. It took place on November 2. It was a huge success because tons of people came out. They played all sorts of music from: jazz to reggae to classic rock. All the bands were very good and they should be congratulated!!
This second picture is my math quizzes and assignment. It shows that if you work hard you can get the mark you want. I find this class to be fairly easy and I’m thinking of doing enriched math next year. I hope I do well if I do!!

Week 7

This first picture is a science DVD that Warren and Kevin helped make for our science ecosystem. For this project we went down to Crescent’s ecosystem and we took pictures of 20m by 5m area. We had to record all the species we saw and all the plants and trees we saw. This was a fun project, but my group spent a lot of hours working on this DVD and booklet. I hope we get a good mark!!!!
This second picture is the BSS dance on Friday the 26th. You had to wear a costume to go. It was fun to see all my friends at the dance because I haven’t seen them since I took history in the summer with them.

Week 6
The first picture is a picture of my guitar. I had a guitar lesson on Saturday and we played Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson. Jack Johnson is a very talented guitarist and it’s amazing that I can play some songs by him. One day I want to be as good as guitar as him!!!
The second picture is my accounting textbook. I have a big test on Monday and I’ve been studying for such a long time. I’m determined to get good on this test. Also, this textbook is around 750 pages and it’s amazing by the end of the year I would know everything on all those pages.

Photographic Formative 2 Texture
Texture is defined as: if you could touch the surface of the photograph how would it feel?? How do the objects in the picture look like they would feel??
If you would touch this photograph in person it would feel a bit bumpy and rigid. I used a direct approach to take this shot of the keyboard. I thought it would just show the main attraction fast and short. In the picture there is a lot of repetitiion because each key has the same look, but their's just different letters, numbers, and signs on each one.
Week 5
The first picture was taken on Tuesday the 9th. It was when our grade went to Sunnybrook for the drug and alcohol talk. We talked people’s recovery from drunk driving or being victims of drunk driven and we also got a tour of some different wings.
The second picture is all of my cough medicine I’ve been using the whole week. I’ve been using it because I had a soar throat and I’ve been trying to get rid of it.

Week 4
The first picture was taken on “wear pink day” for breast cancer. This was taken in Media Arts class and it shows everyone wearing pink. This shows that everyone in our class contributed money to try and find a curer for breast cancer.
I took this second picture of me and my friends walking to the movies on Friday the 5th. We got out of school at 1:15 because it was thanksgiving weekend. That day was also breast cancer day and we all had to wear pink. I’m looking forward for a weekend of non-stop eating turkey and mash potatoes.

Summative Unit One

A. I think it is indexical because it directly suggests meaning it associates with the thing it represents. I picked these pictures because they symbolized poverty through the clothes there wearing and the place there living in.
B. I think the most powerful picutre is the family in the background because it shows how there poor and how they need help. It's also a powerful picture because it's the biggest picture and there all sad.

Week 3
I took this first picture of everyone at our lockers because it was house day and we were all tired and wanting to go home. Also, this is the first time we got lockers not near other grades. This is good because there aren’t little kids running around us or grads plowing through us.
The second picture was taken on house day. It shows people playing basketball and they’re showing their house spirits. House day was fun because we were with the whole school in groups. Also, everyone was very enthusiastic about today and everyone had a great time. ps. Cartier is the best :P

Week 2
I took these pictures for my science class projects. The first one is my science aquarium where we have to put fishes in the aquarium for the remaning of the year and see if it can last by itself. The second picture is my science ecosystem where we went outside to the ravine and had a specific area and we had to watch the different species and different plants living around our area.
